The world’s first epic poem, The Descent of Inanna, recorded on Cuneiform tablets deifies, personifies, immortalizes the ongoing Venus cycle. According to Sumerian myth, the Queen of Heaven and Earth, Inanna descends from above to observe the funeral rites of Gugalanna, the Bull of Heaven. As described in the epic of Gilgamesh, Gugalanna is married to Inanna’s sister, Erishkegal, Queen of the Underworld, the primal feminine existing outside the patriarchy… and Inanna is largely responsible for Gugalanna’s demise. Together, the sister Godesses represent duality — light and dark, exaltation and damnation — the primordial polarity, and full spectrum of the Feminine.
